Personality:

Upon initial impressions, Seiko comes across as a jittery and nervous person, and has been seen to jump or be startled easily, especially when she's concentrating on her work. Reserved and seemingly closed off towards people, she appears to pour everything into her work, both in terms of her skills and research as the Ultimate Pharmacist, and her duties as the Head of the fourth division in Future Foundation. As such, she takes the betrayal of Makoto Naegi in hiding the Remnants of Despair seriously, saying the Remnants will pay for trapping them in the killing game and remarking on the need to remove the rotten parts before the whole thing becomes rotten. This is likely both referring the million class murderers and Naegi. In fact her only regret seems to be that she didn't think to bring a truth serum to the trial in order to confirm his guilt.

However, there is much more to her than what most people see. Despite the distance she seems to keep, her facial expressions often give away her anxiety and nervousness. That is presumed to be at least part of the reason she wears a face mask, so she is not so easy to read. Considering the sense of betrayal she endured at the hands of Ruruka, who she considered her dearest friend, this could be her way of making herself less vulnerable, even if she is seen wearing the mask both before meeting the other girl and during their years of friendship. Comparing Seiko as a student and as an adult, the main difference is her more guarded and aggressive ways, all of which came about after her expulsion from Hopes Peak Academy.

All through her life, while awkward and soft spoken when addressing others, she is ultimately kind and compassionate. This aspect of her personality is most obvious when she believes someone is ill or injured, immediately stepping in to take care of them and offer help. She is genuinely panicked when she sees Bandai collapse and immediately rushes over to try and save him from the poison with her medicine, even though she is too late to prevent his death, going so far as to push someone as big and aggressive and Sakakura out of the way to do so. She is shown to be concerned when Ruruka complains of a cold, declaring she will make medicine immediately while quizzing her about her symptoms, and even tried to treat a pair of dogs that had been hit by a car, saving one but crying when the other died.

Ultimately, she yearns for friendship,and acceptance from others, going to great lengths to please those around her, whether it's someone she had an existing relationship with or a near complete stranger. She frequently fulfilled requests made to her from other students at school for various drugs of all kinds, and is show practically glowing with happiness when someone praises her skills or thanks her for her efforts. She is shown to harbor great loyalty and gratitude to those who treat her kindly, proven by her refusal to kill Munakata due to how he came to her aid after she was expelled and likely homeless. Unfortunately, that does lead to her being something of a doormat, easily taken advantage of by those who see her desire to please as something to exploit. Ruruka was most guilty of this, constantly asking Seiko to make things for her, even when the other girl was reluctant to do so. However, her loyalty to her friend always outweighed her reservations, and she often caved in to the demands, even giving up the drug she was planning to use for her own exam presentation because Ruruka wanted it. She did truly consider the confectioner her friend, fully believing in it for much of her adolescence, and because of that strong desire to be a good friend in turn, she was willing to do anything for Ruruka, particularly to make up for not being able to eat the other girls sweets due to sugar clashing with her medication. Her eagerness to please and yearning for a friend drove her to become dependent on her friend, allowing her to take greater advantage of her. This is reflected in the killing game as well, as her forbidden action is allowing someone to step on her shadow, symbolic of how much she had allowed Ruruka to walk all over her in the past.

That changed the day of the exams, when her supposed best friend placed all blame for the laxative laced food and their following expulsion on her. Beforehand, Seiko did show mild annoyance with Ruruka's demands, shown in her blaming the girl for her sleeping in that morning as she had to stay up late to make a new drug for her test from scratch. It shows over time she has grown less naive, but still does not confront the issue of how she is being treated. She never let that growing resentment bleed into her friendship, showing she was still willing to put up with a lot because of how loyal she was in treasuring it. However, everything came crumbling down when her attempts to explain were ignored, with Ruruka dismissing the years of obedience and help and calling her horrible, not a friend or even a stranger, but a subhuman asshole. Seeing how her efforts were in vain, that she never had the others girls trust or real friendship, Seiko finally vented her own frustrations and anger verbally, calling Ruruka out on how unfair she was being, screaming with fury and questioning why it had to be her fault and declaring her former friend the real traitor. As the incident proved, even someone as timid and mild mannered as Seiko had a breaking point, and caused all her distrust towards Ruruka and by extent Izayoi to fester and build. By the time the killing game has started, emotions were running high, and upon confronting her old classmates and being forced to relive the pain of being used and called a traitor, she lashed out and attacked, seemingly with the intent to kill.

Despite that though, Seiko's main drive for what she does has not changed in all that time, despite the betrayal and hurt she suffered, namely to help others and save those around her. Even when she was in her beast mode and chasing down Ruruka, she stopped when she stumbled across a fight between several other participants in the game. Her primary interest is not in challenging anyone else, nor to apprehend Makoto Naegi despite her seeming to believe in his guilt. Instead she noticed that Aoi Asahina has suffered an injury to her arm, and attempts to approach her with medicine in hand, indicating she wanted to treat the wound. Even in her last confrontation with Ruruka as she is trying to break through glass with her bare fists to get to the confectioner, she feels regret for how everything turned out between them.

It's saying a lot that in her last moments of consciousness, which unknown to her would be the final minutes of her life, that she is not feeling sorry for herself, but rather regretting the fact that she could not save everyone. This is both in regards to thinking back on her coworkers in Future Foundation who had died, people she felt she should have been able to save with her medicine, as well as her relationship with Ruruka, that she couldn't save their friendship from falling apart. Even after the fallout, even after trying to attack her, she still kept the first candy Ruruka ever gave her, showing how she still treasured their friendship despite its problems, even in her last moments.

Abilities: By all appearances, Seiko is normally as ordinary as she seems, some perhaps assuming she's sickly due to her pale complexion and habit of rarely removing her face mask. Additionally, her hair had the odd quirk of moving and wriggling on its own, particularly when she expresses herself more opening, like telling Nagito Komaeda off for getting too close to the dangerous chemicals she was handling, or with happiness when he later praised the effectiveness of her laxative. However, the physical capabilities change drastically once she takes some of her custom made enhancement drugs. Using them, her body becomes bigger, stronger, faster and more agile. Her senses are heightened, her hair grows longer, her nails and teeth sharpen, and the whites of her eyes turn pink while her pupils become slits, making her much more beast like, especially as she is seen giving chase on all fours. In terms of other skills, as the Ultimate Pharmacist, she possesses a wealth of knowledge in both the creation and identification of all sorts of drugs. Not only is she shown identifying sleeping gas and its potency in an instant during the Future Foundation attack, but she has been show to be able to make just about any drug imaginable, from strength enhancements, aphrodisiacs, laxatives, memory enhancers, tiredness remedies, healing potions that can mend stab wounds and broken bones, antidotes for poisons, and even more mundane things like lip balm and cold medicine.

Alignment: Piphron - Seiko has endured both sides of the spectrum, having experienced unconditional trust towards those she cared for, only for it to sour and leave her unwilling to consider forming that sort of bond with others again, leading her to harbor much more suspicion and distrust overall. Her biggest turning point was a crushing moment when all her faith and trust in the friendship she cared so deeply for fell apart, leaving her distraught and broken. That being said, there is still signs of the desire to trust again within her, but it will take a lot of effort and development for her to achieve it, especially when dealing with many people who she once opposed.

Other: As she is being taken from during the killing game, her bracelet will still be in effect, meaning she will fall asleep every two hours and need to prevent people from stepping on her shadow. The intent is for her to eventually harness her emotions and break the bracelet so it no longer inhibits her. in the game. If that is a problem in anyway please let me know and I will amend things so she arrives without it or with the bracelet no longer working.
